Waitress Resume – Frequently Asked Questions

Should I include a cover letter when turning in my waitress resume?

Answer:

Yes. Always include as much information as possible when you turn in your waitress resume.  A cover letter will help the establishment to learn more about you.

Question:

Can I still get hired as a waitress even if I haven’t had any prior experience?

Answer:

Yes. Even if you haven’t been a waitress before, employers will still look to hire you.  As long as you have a well written resume and are able to highlight your talents and skills.  Often times they will call you in for an interview to learn more about you and to see if you would be a good fit at their establishment.  Many employers would rather hire a good employee and have to teach them more than to keep a bad employee.

Answer:

There is no magic outfit that will guarantee you a position, but the best advice is to always caution on the side of overdressed.  There is nothing worse than someone showing up for an interview at our restaurant in jeans and a t-shirt.  It doesn’t matter if you are going to interview for a waitress position or for an accounting position, you need to be dressed professionally.  Usually this means at least a pair of dress pants, shirt and tie for men and dress pants with a nice blouse for woman.

Question:

When is the best time to turn in a waitress resume?

Answer:

The best time to turn in a resume and application is early in the morning or between 2-4 PM.  Check the restaurant times and when they serving so that you do not interrupt their busy schedules.  Employers will take note of what time your drop off your resume so make sure that you are not inconveniencing the employees by dropping it off during their peak hours.

Question:

Do I need to include a list of references when I turn in my resume and application?

Answer:

You don’t have to include a list of references, but I would recommend it.  If you don’t attach a list of references to your resume, make sure to note at the bottom that you can provide a list of references upon request.  The main reason for providing the references with your resume is because it allows the potential employer to do their homework before the actual interview.
